Project Breathe™ Program to Protect Animals from Smoke Inhalation

4/22/2014

When there's a fire, people aren't the only ones affected by smoke inhalation. Sometimes their pets are too.

The Vet Tech Club at Blue Ridge Community College, with the help of the Invisible Fence® Brand, is giving pet oxygen masks to 10 Augusta County fire departments. The effort is called Project Breathe™ program.

The firefighters are getting a kit equipped with oxygen masks to help both dogs and cats.

“This extends the time that they can give the animal treatment and bring him to a veterinary practice,” said Jessie Griffin, president of the BRCC Vet Tech Club.

Steve Monaghan, vice president of the Invisible Fence® Brand, said, “I know the firefighters hate to lose a life and if they can just save any life in a fire, that means all the world to the homeowners.”

The vet tech program aims to extend Project Breathe™ program to Rockingham County.
